Frequently Asked Questions

Piano vs Keyboard - Which one should I learn?

When choosing between a piano and a keyboard, think about what kind of music you like and how you want to play. Choose a keyboard if you enjoy modern music, playing with different sounds, using backing tracks, and creating music digitally. Keyboards are easy to use, portable, affordable, and great if you prefer playing mostly with your right hand and don’t want to use pedals. Choose a piano if you love rich, beautiful sounds and want to play styles like classical or jazz. Playing the piano uses both hands and feet, improves coordination, strengthens your fingers, and helps keep your mind sharp. Pianos also let you play with more feeling and expression because of their touch sensitive weighted keys.

Do online classes really work for learning piano or keyboard?

Absolutely! With the right guidance, online music lessons are highly effective. At Aum Piano Studio, our personalised one-on-one instruction, real-time feedback, and structured learning plans help students develop strong, well-rounded musical skills and confidently achieve internationally recognised certifications - all from the comfort of home.

What styles of music are taught?

At Aum Piano Studio, our core focus is Western classical music, but we also offer training in contemporary Western genres and Indian film & folk music for interested students. Whether you aspire to master classical masterpieces or explore diverse musical styles, we provide the guidance to help you grow as a well-rounded musician.

What is the class duration and frequency?

We offer flexible lesson options to suit your schedule and learning pace. You can choose from 30-minute, 45-minute, or 60-minute sessions, with the option of one or two lessons per week, depending on your availability and commitment level.

What are the class days and timing?

Since all our sessions are one-on-one, class days and timings are flexible and will be scheduled at a mutually convenient time for both the student and the teacher.

Do you offer late-night or early-morning classes?

Yes! With over 60% of our students learning from overseas, we offer late-night and early-morning sessions to accommodate different time zones. However, please note that we have a different fee structure for overseas students compared to Indian residents due to these scheduling adjustments.

How are the online classes conducted?

All our sessions are conducted via Google Meet. Our teachers will share the lesson link 5–10 minutes before each lesson via WhatsApp or email for easy access.

Is there a minimum age to start piano/keyboard classes?

Yes, the minimum starting age at Aum Piano Studio is 6 years. By this age, children typically develop the motor skills, focus, and coordination needed to engage effectively in structured music lessons and enjoy the learning process.

Do I need to have an instrument?

Yes, regular practice is essential for learning any instrument. While beginners don’t need a high-end model, having at least a basic piano or keyboard is mandatory to take lessons with us and make meaningful progress.

What should be my set up for the online lessons?

For all online lessons, students should have a functioning laptop or tablet with a quality webcam and stable internet connectivity. For theory lessons, the device can be placed directly in front of the student for easy interaction. For piano and keyboard lessons, in addition to the above, students will need a second device - such as a phone or tablet - for playing the metronome and backing track or accompaniment recordings. The primary device should be positioned at the side of the instrument so that the student’s face, hands, and the full keyboard surface are clearly visible in the frame, while the second device can be placed on the music stand, directly in front. This setup ensures that the teacher can effectively observe technique and provide meaningful feedback throughout the lesson.
